The 2nd Annual Doane College Classic was held in Crete, Neb., at the Doane College Disc Golf Course on Saturday, April 7. With 52 disc golfers coming out to compete in this PDGA sanctioned C-tier event, it was Paul Ulibarri of Phoenix, Ariz., who emerged the winner with a final score of 13-under par.
Ulibarri was the 2011 Brent Hambrick Open winner with numerous other victories, including the Shelly Sharpe Memorial, the Cactus Championships, and the Patapsco Picnic.
Following in second place in the open division was Clayton Brown of Kearney, Neb., at five strokes behind, scoring 8-under par, while Alan Wagner of Lincoln, Neb., captured third place with a final score of 3-under par. Marshall McGill and Chris Sanders followed in a tie for fourth place with both scoring 2-over par, and Jeff Beaty took sixth place with a final score of 3-over par.
2011 Female Rookie of the Year Catrina Allen of Phoenix, Ariz., won the open division for the women, scoring 2-under par. Allen won the Memorial Warm-Up at Scottsdale, Ariz., in February and had second-place finishes at both the Gentleman's Challenge in Las Vegas and the Memorial Championship in Scottsdale.
Scoring 6-under par, the advanced division victory went to Rob Hruska of Lincoln, Neb., after a tight race with Chris Shuman of La Vista, Neb., who ended the division just a stroke behind at 5-under par. At third place was John Jones, while Kyle Erickson, Tony Odem and Andy Petersen followed in fourth, fifth and sixth place, respectively.
The advanced masters division ended in a tie for first place between Steve Stump of Grand Island, Neb., and Andrew Chisholm of Lincoln, who both finished with a final score of 5-over par.
Ian Stone of Kansas City, Mo., won the intermediate division, scoring 5-under par, while Logan Simmerman followed in second place with a final score of 3-under par. Kenny Witherwax of Omaha, Neb., captured third place at just a stroke behind, scoring 2-under par.
The novice division victory went to Ron Uhlenkamp of Carrol, Iowa, with a final score of 13-over par. Uhlenkamp had a win in the recreational division at the Coca Cola Classic this past September. Travis Sand followed in second place, scoring 17-over par, while Spencer Corter took third place with a final score of 18-over par.
