Are you using the other side also this year?

Unfortunately we don't get to use the East side due to the NRD having a field day with installing some sort of retention ponds on both sides of the East
course, but the layout we have for this year's Shoot-Out is unlike anything we've seen here in a long time if at all.

So it's one round of 18 and a final 9 for all the pro's including masters and women? Just one round of 18 for everyone else?

Kind of a bummer that this isn't a two rounder like always. This was always one of my faves. This is during my bye week for baseball, and wanted to get
in a good 4 rounder or so.
Any reason why it's just a one dayer now? Just curious... Probably will have to miss this one considering it'll be about $180 just in gas to there and back. |

Fratchman!
I think you meant two-dayer instead of "two-rounder," right? The single-day event is the wave of the present and future. Many desire to play in two one-day events so they can earn twice the points. The two-day weekend event is soon to be history.

I agree, that does seem to be the trend. I personally prefer 2 day events...makes you proove you are better, not just better that day. The phsycollogy involved
becomes much more dynamic.

I totally agree with you Boro. I like the two day events--namely the 4 round variety because it does tend to test your fatigue factor, physically and
mentally. I know that most A-tiers are jamming in 24 or 25 holes on Saturdays, and a round on Sunday because of the travel factor, but I think that 4 rounders
are the utlimate test of endurance.
What I'd really be down for is a par 72(ish) 4 rounder. That's golf right there. |

What I'd really be down for is a par 72(ish) 4 rounder. That's golf right there. With all due respect, Fratch, if the top pros shoot a winning score of 72 per round, that means that the advanced ams would be shooting in the 80s and intermediates would be in the 90s. Many recs probably wouldn't break a hundred. We're talking four-hour rounds, maybe more. That's a long day and weekend for four rounds of that caliber. Now if you stretch it out to a round per day, that would work, but it wouldn't be practical for lots of folks to commit to playing on Thursday and Friday. Personally, I like the rounds that take about two to three hours and playing in foursomes. (Sorry, but fivesomes suck.) Two rounds for day one, a Saturday night social, and then one round and a final nine on day two is my personal favorite format.

And so comes the evolution of a pro event, and an am event, held on separate days with different course layouts. Better yet is the ratings based tournament
held on different days.
When will the first ratings based tournament be held in Nebraska? |

I'm still on the 4 round, 2 day event as my prefered event. I completely understand the flexibility and time issues that the 1 day event offers, but one if
the reasons I became a tournament golfer was to test my abilities for 4 rounds. 2 rounds ins't ever and never will be a true test of a golfers abilites to
maintain the highest level for more than just a short burst. If there needs to be 2 courses with different divisions assigned to their respective course
layouts, great, but 2 day, 4 round events are still what I wish to see increasing, not decreasing. The SCSO and ACTA are the 2 main reasons I like to compete
in tourney play when I can. Hopefully in the future those traditions will hold true and not be lost to unfortunate, but legitimate reasons. My personal opinion
is that the move to 1 day events is more of a factor relating to past TD's not having the time or energy to run a 2 day event anymore and there aren't
enough people willing to step up and do it themselves due to not being able to play in the event. Very few of us want to sacrifice playing for TDing (me
included) but until more of us are willing to do that, I think the decline of the 2 day event is going to contunue. I really hope it doesn't though.

I would like to add that as a TD with experience of 1 and 2 day events, the second day isn't much work. There is a need to start and tally the scores for
two more rounds, but those go quickly and there are always volunteers on hand to help if it's wanted. Moving the baskets for the second day of a two day
event can take some time. Get a basket crew together, make a plan and distribute and recover the keys. Not hard work, but something to facilitate.
Observing and responding to changes to be more similar to other B tiers, and the commitment of time for a person to sit at the shelter in Roper for two days, were the main contributing factors in my opinion. In America, we're all entitled to our opinions. If there is sufficient need, perhaps the things that are happening with the SCSO this year will help catapult it to an A tier in 2009? |

If there is sufficient need, perhaps the things that are happening with the SCSO this year will help catapult it to an A tier in 2009?So, what are the minimum requirements for an A-tier event? I know there's a minimum for pro purse. Is there also a minimum number of holes for the event to qualify for the A-tier status? Prize value for ams? More than one course?

Couple questions about the doubles.
Is it random draw or bring a partner? Best shot, worst shot, or alternate shot? How much does it cost to participate per player? What time does the doubles tournament begin?
